We collect information about many aspects of family life, including:
•    household circumstances,
•    children’s eating habits (and their height and weight),
•    children’s activities ,
•    experiences of pre-school and school,
•    childcare,
•    parent’s attitudes towards discipline,
•    parents’ relationships with their children and with each other,
•     the division of domestic labour, and
•     ….. much more!

Collecting this information from families as their children grow up will help us understand the impact of early years experiences on children’s later lives. This information will help the Scottish Government and others to develop policies and services to meet the needs of families with young children so that every child can have ‘the best start in life’.

There are 2 groups of children taking part in GUS. When the information in this quiz was collected the older group were just under 5 years old and the younger group were just under 3.

You may even be taking part in GUS. One in 10 children born in Scotland between June 2004 and May 2005 were selected at random to take part. If you are a GUS family, thank you again for your participation and please feel free to take the quiz!

This quiz is part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science and is funded by the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council). The Festival aims to show how social research can influence our daily lives.
